Educator Seminar: "Why Play is What Children Need to Thrive"

Date

Location
Virtual Event hosted on Zoom.

Hosted by Bing Educators Adrienne Lomangino and Emma Vallarino.

"The spontaneous play of young children is their highest achievement. In their play, children invent the world for themselves and create a place for themselves in it. They are re-creating their pasts and imagining their futures, while grounding themselves in the reality and fantasy of their lives here-and-now." -Elizabeth Jones and Gretchen Reynolds, 1992

For over 50 years Bing Nursery School has embraced a child-centered and play-based approach for young children. Why has play remained at the core of Bing's program for all these years? A growing body of research across multiple fields including neuroscience, anthropology, education, and medicine supports the essential role of play in the lives of young children. We'll examine the importance of play in the lives of young children from an evolutionary and neuroscience perspective and in relation to fostering healthy development and wellbeing and building life-long skills.
