Educator Seminar: "Musical Play With Young Children: Creating Ideal Music Learning Environments"

Location
Virtual Event hosted on Zoom.

Open to Early Childhood Educators. Limited to 100 participants.

Cost: $25 per ticket.

Hosted by Dr. Leslie Hart, Music Specialist at Bing Nursery School.

Building fluency in music is much the same as with language. In language, children develop competence over the course of years, while engaging in improvised expression for countless hours, from a variety of sources, perhaps in multiple languages. In music learning environments, children need similar opportunities to play through singing, movement, and repeated experiences with a variety of repertoire. However, music learning is typically teacher directed with few opportunities for improvisation or play. This presentation will explore music learning within a play-based nursery school setting. It will offer video examples of children’s musical expression, as well as suggestions for creating ideal music learning environments, based on classroom teaching experiences and the research literature.
