Educator Seminar: "Embracing the Imagination: How imagination is the heart of thinking"

Date
-
Location
Virtual, hosted on Zoom.

“Imagination is not just an idle mental amusement, not merely an activity without consequence in reality, but rather a function essential to life” (Vygotsky, 2004).

Imagination is a basic human competence that enables humans to thrive in a complex, unpredictable world. Opportunities for children to strengthen their imaginations are essential, not only for their individual development, but for the development of human culture and society. This session examines what imagination is and highlights the wide range of ways in which children use their imagination as they seek to make sense of the world. We will explore Vytotsky’s ideas about imagination and explore the role of the imagination in a wide range of human thinking. Classroom examples illustrate how the imagination can thrive in children’s everyday play experiences. This session was included in the three-day educator session at Bing in the summer of 2023.
