Educator Summer Session: "Entering Children's Worlds: Socio-Dramatic Play in the Early Learning Setting"

Young children engaging in socio-dramatic play enter into a complex system of roles, themes, interactions and negotiations. How does socio-dramatic play develop and what do young children gain from this type of play? How is this pretend world created – and impacted – by school environment, children’s peers or teachers? 

In this 2 ½ day workshop, participants will approach this topic in a variety of ways, including presentations by Bing teachers, individual and collaborative reflective exercises, and classroom observations. Through these experiences, participants will investigate authentic socio-dramatic play, explore ways peer culture, home experiences and classroom environments influence children’s play experiences, and gain new perspectives on the pretend worlds of children to support their teaching practice back in the classroom.

Thursday, July 18:  8:30am - 4:15pm

Friday, July 19:  8:30am - 3:00pm

Open to early childhood educators. Space is limited to 30 participants. 

Fee: $650 (lunches and opening dinner included). $50 discount available for each additional participant (maximum 5) from one site registering at the same time, using the same credit card/payment option. In conjunction with Stanford Continuing Studies Program Special Programs (CSP SP), participants can receive an optional 2 units or 20 professional development hours upon course completion for an additional $75.

Refund Policy: Withdrawal by April 15, 2019: $300 refund; withdrawal by May 15, 2019: $200 refund.
