The outdoor environment, when thoughtfully designed and realized, attracts children’s attention as a place for inquiry, exploration, discovery and collaboration.  This presentation takes participants back to the early 1960s to learn about founding director Edith Dowley’s vision of developing the outdoor space as an important part of the learning environment. Connecting between the past and present through three current stories, told via video and slides, the presentation highlights meaningful learning that continues to take place in the yards.
