Music at Bing
Music permeates every child’s experience at Bing in planned and spontaneous ways. Children have daily experiences with music through songs at story time, dancing and singing at music time, playing instruments, and songs that originate from children’s play.

Daily music play
Music happens throughout the classroom session. Children joyfully engage with a variety of classroom instruments and also find music in unexpected places, tapping on pots, buckets, and barrels as they create rhythms and burst into spontaneous song. Children also use invented notations to document their original compositions.
Each day the children are invited to music time after snack. A teacher leads the music activities to draw the group together, sustain their attention, and promote coordinated participation. The children bring their own ideas to the music play, from inventing songs and melodies to bringing creative ideas to the group.
These daily music activities encourage both group participation and individual expression.
“Children must be immersed in a playful music environment in which their music utterances are nurtured and treasured.”
-Cynthia Taggart, 2000

Sing-alongs and more
Each year Bing provides opportunities to create a music-rich learning environment. Musical parents and visiting professional musicians perform at school, and we have a performance series designed specifically for young audiences.
Bing’s YouTube Music Playlist encourages families to engage with music heard at school and features many original compositions by children while our many recorded albums further enrich music vocabulary.

Bing Performance Series
Each year Bing offers musical and cultural performances for children and their families, including events at Dinkelspiel Auditorium and the Bing Concert Hall.

Music CDs
Producing CDs brought together the talents and joy for music throughout our school community. We can also continue to share the songs they have grown to know and love wherever we may go.
